Noida activates ‘Elderline’ for senior citizens

Noida has become one of the city in the country to successfully starts ELDERLINE’, a helpline to assist and comfort senior citizens. In order to address the concerns and grievances of the people aged above 60 years, the Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment came up with an initiative to reach out to the vulnerable section and help them in terms of health concerns, emotional support and legal aid.
As per TOI The district has a senior citizen population of 21,000 who avail the benefits of the government-run schemes. It is estimated that at least 1.50 lakh senior citizens are residing in Gautam Buddh Nagar district. It is now enabled to deal with the emergency needs of the elderly with the help of local police. The helpline (14567) is being cited as a critical step to reach the elderly in need during the pandemic, as it receives as many calls on a daily basis.
According to the instructions issued by the Uttar Pradesh government, under the ELDERLINE project, all senior citizens in need are being provided complete support through the call entres which remain functional from 8 am to 8 pm. All queries pertaining to information on old age homes, physiotherapy units, health related, mental health related and legal issues are being addressed promptly, thereby ensuring quick redressal of grievances as directed by the state government. The ELDERLINE is a facility operationalised with the assistance of Tata Trusts and NSE foundation.
